Theology in an ecumenical perspective
The Theological Faculty of the Pontifical Lateran University is preparing to launch a program of theological formation in an ecumenical perspective: in the Catholic system of studies, it is a "specialization", that is, the two-year period that follows the fundamental cycle of studies and ends with the licentiate.
The specificity of this itinerary consists in the fact that it is not a course of "ecumenism", that is, dedicated to the themes of controversy and the possibilities of understanding between confessions. Instead, the subject of the study is, in a certain sense, theology as such, seen, however, in the perspective of the dialogue between the different traditions: Catholic - Roman, Orthodox, Protestant, Evangelical. It is, as far as I know, an original approach, the result of a rather long experience of Lateran theologians in the ecumenical field.
The course has an international horizon and was designed by a working group coordinated by Prof. Giuseppe Lorizio. The Waldensian Faculty of Theology has been invited to participate in the conception phase in the persons of Prof. Lothar Vogel and myself and sees several of its teachers involved in the initiative.
The course of studies will be presented in a telematic event scheduled for the late afternoon of Friday 19th June, which will hopefully be well attended.
